A while back, the Government ran a TV campaign, telling us to set our air conditioners to 24 degrees, so save power. They then decided to do some homework after spending all that money, and subsequently pulled the ads down again.

Why? Well you see, our air conditioning units are specifically designed & optimised to run most efficiently at a room temperature of 22 degrees.

Running a system so designed at the 24 degree benchmark does not save power.

So, pick a temperature comfortable for you of 22 – 24 degrees for the same power consumption.

At a 25-degree setting you will start to save power.

At a 21-degree setting you will start to use more power.

Another key factor in checking that you are getting the most out of your air conditioning unit is the air velocity.

Typically, the difference between a dirty and a clean air conditioning unit is an improvement in air velocity of between 10 and 100 percent. Everything mentioned above is all out the window if your unit is restricted due to a build-up of contaminants.
